Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez wants surgery on his left thumb and has been positioned on the 10-day injured record.
The surgery will probably be to repair the ulnar collateral ligament within the thumb, and his IL transfer is retroactive to Tuesday. The group mentioned Perez is predicted to return this season.
He missed 9 video games earlier this season when he went on the IL with a left thumb sprain, however returned in late May. Perez on Tuesday left the group’s extra-inning win over the Los Angeles Angels within the third inning due to his thumb harm.
Perez is batting a career-low .211 with a team-high 11 residence runs. Last season, Perez tied for the most important league lead with 48 homers and drove in 121 runs.
